With the school holidays approaching, there is so much to see in the night sky.
One of the most spectacular targets currently visible is the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy (M83), a beautiful barred spiral galaxy located approximately 15 million light-years from Earth.
Despite its distance, M83 can be spotted from a dark-sky location with a good pair of binoculars, appearing as a faint, misty patch of light. Through a small telescope, its bright core becomes more obvious, while larger telescopes reveal hints of its magnificent spiral structure
