Almost one million Australian served our country during the war and many paid the ultimate sacrifice. 39,000 Australians sadly never came home and many are buried in far away lands. Like many families, my grandfather lost two of his brothers, one in Sudan and the other in Papua New Guinea. It was a subject he never liked to discuss.
