History and culture on show at today’s Helensvale State School NAIDOC Week Celebrations. It’s a proud and special moment for many students who contributed to today’s celebrations.

I have written to the Minister for Police and CC the newly appointed Police Commissioner about adequately resourcing the proposed Police Station at Pimpama. We need a net increase in officers on the Northern Gold Coast and simply moving officers from Coomera to the new station will do little to reduce the high levels of workload for Police. We need a substantial increase in Police numbers to reflect the high levels of calls for service.

Interesting discussions today with a retired Police officer. Whilst 11 additional officers is welcomed at Coomera. The number of officers to residents ratio is still far behind comparable regions further south. Add this to the high levels of calls for service to police, we need a system change that allocates the necessary numbers of officers to high demand areas. Time for a Community Roadside at Pacific Pines before a busy night of meetings.

As promised at today’s Helensvale State School P&C meeting, I have passed on information discussed at the meeting regarding the current school fence. The school has a CCTV camera system that monitors the grounds and has highlighted the need for better fencing. In addition, the fence does need to be replaced due to its age. There are sections of the fence that desperately need some TLC. I will also place a question on notice about this matter at the next sitting of parliament.

Proud afternoon for both junior and veteran fishers at the Oxenford Fishing Club. Nice sized whiting, flathead and cod on display. The club meets every Sunday afternoon from 12:30 at the clubhouse next to Siganto Park Upper Coomera. If your keen about fishing, these folks know a thing or two.
