Bit of a news flash about John Muntz Bridge. I was at a media interview with Minister for Main Roads at the John Muntz Bridge. Now the Minister claims the bridge will not be fully open until August. This isn't acceptable when the department keeps informing residents it will be mid year. Mid year is end of June!

Causeway set to reopen soon despite Debbie’s best efforts

Repairs to the John Muntz Causeway on the Gold Coast, severely damaged by ex-TC Debbie are on track, with one lane to reopen before the end of July.

Minister for Main Roads and Road Safety Mark Bailey praised workers today as he inspected progress of works to reconnect Tamborine-Oxenford Road, and says reopening the causeway has been a priority since it washed away during flooding rain in April.

“This has been a massive job. So far, crews working around the clock have removed more than 500 tonnes of concrete and 13,000 tonnes of debris from the Coomera River – equivalent to about 1000 truckloads,” he said.

“Unless we get another extreme weather event, final repairs are expected to be complete before the end of August.”
